Train-to-Adopt™

Quality of LifeAnimals for Adoption believes the mental and emotional needs of shelter dogs are as important as their physical needs. Therefore, Animals for Adoption developed a Train-to-Adopt™ program, which is a commitment to quality of life for all dogs in shelters. Individuals and shelters can learn to train shelter dogs to enhance adoptability and carry out behavioral exercises to keep shelter dogs calm, sane, and content. Animals for Adoption outlines minimum Train-to-Adopt™ requirements for dogs in shelters and trains staff and volunteers to implement simple, low- or no-cost measures that can keep dogs adoptable and make the shelter a friendly and inviting place.

Quality of LifeThe benefits of attending to the behavioral, mental, and emotional health and well being of shelter dogs are many. Dogs that are identified as behaviorally adoptable can maintain their temperaments/dispositions and not lose their ability to connect with people. Even dogs that may ultimately be euthanized deserve to experience the same high quality of life as dogs that may ultimately be adopted.
